Film-makers' Festival Fund (FFF)

Film London's Film-makers' Festival Fund (FFF) aims to support the development of film-makers and moving image artists' careers by assisting them in promoting themselves and their short film projects at primarily overseas festivals and markets. It provides:

  1. Travel grants for attendance at one of the named overseas festivals where their short films have been selected for official competition (excluding Audience Awards).
  2. A contribution towards the cost of striking a first 35mm film print or production of a digital master where required by a festival for screening: e.g. digital duping / mastering for USA festivals NTSC / subtitling. (NB. 35mm print awards are conditional on awardees attending the named festival in their application)

Who can apply?

  • Applicants must live in the Film London region - this must be provable by a utilities bill.
  • Applicants must be either the director or producer of a film that is in competition in a qualifying festival (see list below).
  • In the case of artists represented by galleries or agents, the artist must apply in person as any award will be contracted with an individual not an organisation or company.

Who cannot apply?

  • Individuals living outside the Film London region.
  • Individuals applying on behalf of an organization.
  • Individuals that already hold a travel grant from another funding organisation (such as the British Council).
  • Cast or crew members of the film other than the director or producer.
  • Galleries or agencies representing artists or film-makers may not apply to this fund on behalf of individuals.

Key Funding Priorities 2008-2009

  • New applicants to the Film-makers' Festivals Fund
  • Applicants applying to attend overseas festivals or markets
  • Applicants applying for print production support for an approved festival where their film is in official competition (not Audience Awards)
  • Applicants from under-represented groups within the UK film industry (film-makers with disabilities, film-makers from black or ethnic minority groups and women)

Examples of what we will fund:

  • Travel to overseas festivals where a short film has been selected and is in competition
  • Contribution towards production cost of a 35mm film print where required by a festival
  • Contribution towards the production costs of digital masters where required by a festival
  • In exceptional circumstances, Film London may support attendance at a UK festival or market. In these cases awards will total no more than £300 to contribute towards accreditation, travel and accommodation costs. This will be decided on a case by case basis and in all circumstances, must be discussed with the Skills Projects Manager before applications are received.
  • Only one travel grant will be awarded per project

Examples of what we will not fund:

  • Travel to festivals within the UK (unless under exceptional circumstances - contact the Skills Assistant - see contact details below)
  • Travel to a festival where an applicant is in receipt of any other travel bursary (applicants may still apply for a grant towards print/marketing materials costs)
  • Accommodation costs
  • Production of promotional postcards / business cards / posters or other materials
  • Retrospective activity
  • Fiction or documentary feature films
